Akashi Sake Brewery
Akashi Sake Brewery (明石酒類醸造株式会社), located in Akashi City (明石市), Hyogo Prefecture, began its sake brewing operations in 1917. Situated in a scenic area overlooking the Akashi Strait (明石海峡), the brewery has developed alongside the historic port town of Akashi, embracing the region's rich heritage.
The brewery's flagship brand is Akashi Tai (明石鯛), with a strong focus on using sake rice from Hyogo Prefecture (兵庫県), including locally sourced ingredients from Akashi. This brand has garnered international acclaim, earning praise from top chefs and sommeliers at global food competitions. It is served in prestigious locations such as London’s department stores, restaurants, and even on luxury world cruises.
In 2017, Akashi Sake Brewery expanded into distillation with the establishment of the Kaikyo Distillery (海峡蒸溜所). Here, they produce innovative Japanese whisky and craft gin, blending the traditions of the local Akashi region with a distinctly Japanese identity. Notable products include Hatosaki Whisky (波門崎ウィスキー) and Hyogo Draft Gin at 135 Degrees East (東経135度兵庫ドラフトジン).
The brewery continues to advance its brewing and distilling techniques through collaborations with other breweries across Japan and exchanges with international distilling experts. By honoring traditional methods while seeking innovation, Akashi Sake Brewery consistently creates new, high-quality products that are recognized in global markets, attracting visitors from around the world.
